What is Talent?

Many people believe that talents are abilities. But, I do not agree that idea. As far as I have researched, talents are not just abilities, because talents generate from your emotions. If you do not have enough motivation, you can not keep develop your talents. We develop our talent with emotions, it is emotions that are most important factor to discover your own talents. So we define talent as follows.

Talent is an ability that can be developed by continually taking actions caused by strong and deep emotions that motivate you the most to do something. To make it into equation,

Talent = Emotions x Actions x Abilities

People are categorized into 2 types in Talent Psychology™. One is type G and other is type N.

GType G means people who are motivated by being given something by their parents brothers or sisters, or teachers, athletes,or even heroes in comics and movies. They develop their talent through deep impression, joy, excitement, gratitude and curiosity when they are given something.

For example, a Major- League baseball player, Ichiro, decided to become a baseball player after he saw adults who was playing baseball in his childhood. When he was interviewed and asked why he wanted to become a baseball player, he replied, “When I saw professional baseball players playing baseball when he was child. I could not think of becoming anything else but baseball player”

Type G is impressed, interested and thankful for what they are given and what is around them. They motivate themselves by something important given to them by somebody, and train themselves and became talented.

NOn the other hand, type N refers to people who are motivated by being not given something by their parents, brothers or sisters, teachers or adult people around them. They develop their talent through anger, sadness, and loneliness.

For example, Coco Channel was a designer of a world famous brand. Her mother died when she was 10 years old and her father left her and her sister with a religious house. There were strict rules at the religious house. The orphans like Channel could not take free actions. So she kept thinking day after day about how she could get out of it and attain freedom and independence . And she thought, “If I have money, I can get out of here, so she decided to work as a live-in tailor. She kept designing clothes for independent women for the rest of her life. Channel and her customers feel same emotion. They tried to get what they were not given.

Type N people get motivated by what they were not given. They motivate themselves by emotions like anger, sadness, or loneliness that are caused by being not given something important for them, and train themselves and become talented. They generate their talent by anger, sadness and loneliness.

Each of types can be further broken down into three categories, but which type are you? When you find which type you are, you can discover your own talent.
